σώζω

Etymology: From Ancient Greek σῴζω (sōizō), from Proto-Indo-European *tew- ('to swell'). The semantic development went from 'make whole, healthy' to 'preserve, keep safe'. This root also gives us English 'sound' (as in 'safe and sound') and is related to Sanskrit taviti ('is strong').
