However, Zeus had also given Pandora a box to take with her to earth. As he gave it to her, he warned her: "Pandora, you must never, ever open this box."
For some time, Epimetheus and Pandora lived happily together, but Pandora couldn't forget about the box. "Why would Zeus give me something I cannot open?" she thought. Finally, one day, Pandora was overcome by her curiosity, took the box from its hiding place, and opened it.
At that moment, all evils sprang forth into the world.
The previously peaceful earth was now flooded with plague, famine, and all kinds of misfortunes that Zeus had hidden in the box.
All might have been lost if Pandora hadn't acted quickly.
She immediately closed the box and, although it was almost empty, she managed to stop one thing from escaping: hope. This meant that no matter how many evils spread throughout the world, humanity would always have hope.
Pandora, unwittingly, had released all the evils of the world.
