Deucalion and Pyrrha were thrown into the waves.
Deucalion returned home and quickly set to work on the ship. Soon, the riverbanks began to be covered, lakes to overflow, and seas to rise. As Prometheus had predicted, the flood had come.
The king and queen climbed onto the completed ark and sailed on the waves, as their kingdom disappeared beneath the water. When people began to run toward the mountains, Zeus threw thunderbolts to split the earth in front of them.
For nine days the rain fell and the waves beat against Deucalion and Pyrrha.
Finally, the rain stopped and the ship gently docked on a small piece of land. Zeus saw Deucalion and Pyrrha coming out and was impressed by their escape. "I will grant you one wish," he said.
Deucalion asked to have new people to rule over. Zeus agreed and threw a stone at Deucalion's feet. From this stone, a new race of humans sprang forth. These people lived peacefully with the gods.
The stone transformed into a new race of men and women.
